The Short Answer

Lab Tests at Home in Dubai, In Short

Everything most people want to know before they book, answered in six lines. The detail follows further down the page.

A lab test at home in Dubai means a DHA-licensed professional collects your blood or urine sample at your home, hotel or office instead of you visiting a clinic. The sample is then analysed at a DHA-approved laboratory, exactly as it would be if you had gone in person.

MedCall charges no home collection fee on orders above AED 299. Below that threshold a flat AED 49 collection charge applies, and it is quoted to you before anyone is dispatched rather than added at the door.

Turnaround time depends on the specific test, not on a single company-wide promise. Some results are ready the same day, others take two to three days, and a small number of specialised panels take up to a week. We confirm the exact turnaround for your test when you book.

A home-collected sample is as accurate as one taken in a clinic. It is labelled at your side, transported under temperature control, and processed on the same analysers at the same DHA-approved laboratory. The collection location does not change the result.

You do not need a doctor's referral, and visitors do not need an Emirates ID. Residents, tourists and hotel guests can all book directly. A passport is sufficient identification for visitors.

Every result is reviewed by a doctor at no extra cost, and you receive an itemised invoice you can submit to your insurer. Whether your policy reimburses depends on your plan and whether the test was medically indicated, so we cannot guarantee it, but the paperwork is prepared correctly.

Understanding Home Lab Testing

What Is a Lab Test at Home?

The only thing that changes is where the sample is taken. Everything after that point is identical to a clinic test, and that is the part most people want reassurance about.

A lab test at home is a standard diagnostic test where the sample collection happens at your address rather than in a clinic. A DHA-licensed professional travels to your home, hotel or office, draws blood or collects a urine sample using sterile single-use equipment, and the sample is then transported to a DHA-approved laboratory for analysis.

The laboratory, the analysers, the reagents and the reference ranges are the same ones used for a walk-in patient. Your report is issued to the same clinical standard. What you avoid is the travel, the waiting room and the appointment slot that never quite fits your day.

This matters most for people who find clinic visits genuinely difficult: elderly patients, people recovering from surgery, parents testing young children, anyone with mobility limitations, and people who are anxious about needles and cope far better in familiar surroundings.

Same Laboratory

DHA-Approved Facility

Your sample is analysed on the same analysers, against the same reference ranges, as any clinic sample.

Labelled at Your Side

Chain of Custody

Tubes are labelled in front of you at the moment of collection, so a sample cannot be mixed up in transit.

Temperature Controlled

Protected in Transit

Samples travel in a controlled cool box so the specimen stays stable between your door and the lab.

The Fee Nobody Itemises

The Home Collection Fee, Explained Properly

The reason an at-home test costs a little more than a walk-in is the visit itself, not the laboratory work. Most providers fold that charge in quietly. Here is exactly how ours works, before you ask.

Free

On orders above AED 299

Most panels and any combination of two or three routine tests will clear this threshold, so the majority of our visits carry no collection charge at all.

AED 49

On orders below AED 299

A flat charge for a single low-cost test. It is quoted to you on the phone before a visit is booked, and it never changes once confirmed.

Why This Charge Exists at All

The laboratory analysis costs the same whether your sample was taken in a clinic or in your living room. What differs is sending a licensed professional to your address: their time, the travel, the sterile single-use kit, and the temperature-controlled transport that keeps your specimen stable on the way back to the lab.

Across Dubai it is common for that visit to add somewhere in the region of AED 100 to AED 200, and it is often not broken out on the quote, which is why people are surprised at the door. Independent coverage of home testing prices in Dubai has made exactly this point.

We would rather you saw the rule up front. Above AED 299 we absorb it. Below AED 299 it is AED 49, quoted before dispatch. If the number you were told on the phone is not the number on your invoice, something has gone wrong and we want to hear about it.

Not Sure Where to Start?

Which Test Do I Actually Need?

Most people do not need a sixty-marker panel. A short, well-chosen set of tests is usually cheaper and far more useful. Pick what is on your mind and we will show you where people commonly start.

1 Choose what brought you here

Commonly Requested For This

Booked together in one visit. Because this set clears AED 299, home collection is free and it all comes from a single sample draw.

This is general guidance, not a diagnosis. It shows which tests people commonly request for a given concern, so you have a starting point for the conversation. A test result on its own does not confirm or rule out any condition. Every MedCall result is reviewed by a doctor, and if your symptoms are severe, worsening, or you feel unwell right now, please seek medical care rather than waiting for a test.

Step by Step · Four Stages · No Forms

How a Lab Test at Home Works in Dubai

From your first message to a doctor explaining your report — here is exactly what happens, step by step. No forms, no referral needed, and nothing added to the price at your door.

Step 01

Call or WhatsApp — Name the Test, or Just the Symptom

Dial +971 55 850 2472 or send a WhatsApp message. If you know exactly which test you need, say so. If you only know what has been bothering you, describe that instead and our coordinator will tell you which tests actually answer it — and which ones you do not need. No referral required.

Usually settled in one call

Step 02

Your Exact Price and Turnaround, Before You Commit

We quote the full total for your specific tests, including whether the AED 49 collection charge applies or whether your order clears AED 299 and collection is free. You are also told the turnaround for each test you ordered, and any preparation it needs — fasting, timing, or nothing at all.

Price confirmed before dispatch

Step 03

A DHA-Licensed Professional Collects at Your Home

They arrive with sterile single-use equipment and the correct tubes for your panel. Your sample is labelled in front of you, then transported temperature-controlled to the laboratory. Same-day slots are available, including early mornings for fasting tests. If needles make you anxious, say so when booking and we allow extra time.

About 10 minutes at your home

Step 04

Results Reviewed by a Doctor, Then Explained to You

Your report shows every marker against its reference range. A doctor reads it before it is considered closed — included, not an upsell — and talks you through what it means in English, Arabic, Hindi or Urdu. You finish with a clear next step, not a PDF and silence. Results go to you and nobody else.

Do I Need to Fast?

Preparing for Your Test, Test by Test

Most tests need no preparation at all. A few need fasting, and a few are simply better taken in the morning. Here is which is which, so you are not guessing the night before.

Fasting Means 8 to 12 Hours

No food and no drinks other than water. Most people simply sleep through it and book an early morning slot, which is why we keep those slots open.

Keep Taking Your Medication

Do not stop any prescribed medication to prepare for a test. Tell us what you take and we will note it, because some medicines affect how a result should be read.

Morning Is Often Better

Some hormones follow a daily rhythm and peak early. An 8am sample and a 4pm sample are not comparable for those tests, so timing is part of accuracy.

TestFastingBest TimingNotes
Lipid ProfileYes9-12 hours · MorningTriglycerides in particular are affected by a recent meal.
Glucose (Fasting)Yes8-12 hours · MorningThe fasting state is the whole point of this measurement.
Glucose Tolerance TestYes8-12 hours · MorningRequires repeat samples over 2 to 3 hours, so allow the time.
HbA1cNoAny timeReflects roughly three months of average glucose, so one meal is irrelevant.
Complete Blood Count (CBC)NoAny timeNo preparation needed at all.
Thyroid Function (TFT, TSH)NoMorning preferredIf you take thyroid medication, keep the timing consistent with previous tests.
Vitamin D & Vitamin B12NoAny timeMention any supplements you are taking, as they affect interpretation.
Iron & FerritinNoMorning preferredIron levels vary through the day and after supplements, so morning is more comparable.
CortisolNoAround 8-9amFollows a strong daily rhythm. Timing matters more here than for most tests.
TestosteroneNoAround 7-10amPeaks in the morning, so an afternoon sample can read misleadingly low.
Female Hormones (FSH, LH, Estradiol)NoCycle dependentOften days 2 to 5 of the cycle, but it depends what is being investigated. We confirm with you.
Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH)NoAny day of cycleOne of the few hormone tests that is not tied to a cycle day.
Liver & Kidney FunctionNoAny timeIf booked alongside a lipid profile, you will be fasting anyway.
Urine AnalysisNoFirst morning sampleThe first sample of the day is the most concentrated and therefore the most useful.
Sexual Health ScreeningNoWindow dependentSome infections are not detectable straight after exposure. Tell us the timeframe and we advise.

Water is always allowed, and you should drink it. Plain water does not break a fast for laboratory purposes, and being properly hydrated makes veins easier to find, which makes the draw quicker and more comfortable. Avoid coffee, tea and juice while fasting, since all three can affect results.

This table is a general guide. Preparation can change depending on what your doctor is investigating and on any medication you take, so we confirm the exact instructions for your specific test when you book. If you are diabetic, pregnant, or unsure whether fasting is safe for you, tell us before booking and we will work around it rather than asking you to fast.

The Question Everyone Thinks But Rarely Asks

Is a Home Test as Accurate as a Clinic Test?

Yes, and the reason is worth understanding rather than just being told. What determines accuracy is how the sample is handled, not the room it was taken in.

The Common Worry

"A sample taken at home must be less reliable. It has been sitting around, it has travelled across the city, and nobody was watching. Surely a proper lab does it better."

What Actually Happens

A clinic sample travels too. Blood drawn in a reception area is also carried to a laboratory, also waits for a courier, and is also processed in a batch. The controls that protect it, correct tube, immediate labelling, temperature control, a defined time window, are the same controls we apply at your address.

The Four Things That Actually Protect Your Result

Sample integrity is not a slogan, it is four specific controls. If a provider cannot describe these, that is the thing to be concerned about, not the location of the draw.

The Correct Tube

Different tests need different additives. The professional arrives with the exact tubes your specific panel requires, not a generic kit.

Labelled in Front of You

Tubes are labelled at the moment of collection, at your side. A sample that is never anonymous cannot be swapped in transit.

Temperature Control

Samples travel in a controlled cool carrier. Heat is the real enemy of specimen stability, which matters more in Dubai than most places.

Within the Time Window

Every test has a window in which the sample must reach the analyser. Our routing is built around those windows, not around convenience.

Collected by DHA-licensed professionals, analysed at a DHA-approved laboratory.

Licensing is not paperwork. It means the person at your door has had their qualifications verified by the Dubai Health Authority, and that the laboratory processing your sample is inspected and held to defined standards. You are relying on regulation, not on a claim.

Two honest caveats. First, a laboratory result is one piece of information, not a diagnosis. It has to be read alongside your symptoms and history, which is why a doctor reviews every report we issue. Second, a small number of specialised tests genuinely do need to be performed on site, and if yours is one of them we will tell you plainly rather than take the booking.

Still not sure? Ask us how your test is handled.

Tell us which test you are considering and we will explain exactly which tube it needs, how it travels, and how long it has to reach the analyser.

Who Books a Test at Home

Who Home Lab Testing Is Really For

Convenience is the obvious reason, but it is rarely the real one. For most of the people below, a clinic visit is not merely inconvenient, it is the thing that stops the test happening at all.

Elderly Parents

Getting an older relative dressed, into a car, through a car park and into a waiting room can take most of a morning. A ten minute visit at home replaces all of it, and they stay in surroundings they recognise.

Limited Mobility

Wheelchair users, people with chronic pain, and anyone for whom a journey is genuinely difficult. The test comes to you rather than the other way round.

Recovering After Surgery

Post-operative monitoring often means repeated blood work at exactly the point when moving around is hardest and infection risk matters most. Staying home is the clinically sensible option, not the lazy one.

Ongoing Condition Monitoring

Diabetes, thyroid disease, kidney function, anaemia. When a test is quarterly rather than one-off, the friction of each visit is what causes people to skip it.

Children & Parents

A frightened child in an unfamiliar clinic is a difficult draw. At home they are calmer, a parent can hold them, and there is no queue building up behind you if it takes a few extra minutes.

Anyone Anxious About Needles

Needle anxiety is common and it is not something to be embarrassed about. Tell us in advance and we allow extra time. Being on your own sofa makes a real difference to how the whole thing feels.

People Who Would Otherwise Never Go

The test you keep meaning to book. An early morning slot before work, or a weekend visit, removes the one obstacle that has been in the way for months.

Visitors & Hotel Guests

You do not need to be a resident and you do not need an Emirates ID. A passport is sufficient, and we visit hotels, serviced apartments and holiday rentals across Dubai just as readily as homes.

No residency required

Families & Workplaces

One visit can cover an entire household, so nobody books separately or pays a second collection charge. We also handle office and corporate screening, where the team is tested on site in a single session.

One visit, whole group

Not sure whether your situation is workable? Tell us the practical constraint rather than the medical one — a bedbound relative, a nervous child, a hotel checkout at noon, a team of twenty. Those are the problems we schedule around every day.

An Honest Comparison

Home Collection vs a Clinic Visit

Home testing is not better at everything, and we are not going to pretend it is. Here is where it genuinely wins, where a clinic still makes more sense, and where there is no difference at all.

At HomeMedCall home collectionAt a ClinicWalk-in or appointment
Result accuracy No difference Same DHA-approved laboratory, same analysers, same reference ranges.Identical. A clinic sample also travels to a laboratory and is processed in a batch.
Time it costs you Home wins About ten minutes, at your address, with no travel either way.Travel, parking, registration and waiting. Often the better part of a morning.
Cost Clinic wins The lab price is the same, but a visit fee applies below AED 299. Above that we absorb it.Marginally cheaper for a single low-cost test, since nobody has to travel to you.
Whole household Home wins Everyone collected in one visit, with one collection charge or none. Each person queues separately, and getting several people there at once is its own logistics problem.
Fasting tests Home wins An early slot at home means you can eat immediately afterwards rather than fasting through a commute. You fast through the journey and the waiting room too, which is the part people dislike.
Privacy Home wins No reception desk, no waiting room, nobody you might know sitting opposite.A shared waiting area, which matters to some people more than others.
Same-day results Broadly equal Many routine tests report same day. Turnaround depends on the test, not on where it was taken. The same, though an on-site lab can occasionally shave a few hours off an urgent case.
If a draw is difficult Clinic wins One professional attends. For very difficult veins, a second opinion is not in the room.A colleague can step in immediately, which occasionally matters for fragile or hard-to-find veins.
Tests needing equipment Clinic wins Blood and urine collection only. Imaging, ECG and similar cannot be done at your address. The obvious choice when your check needs scans or on-site equipment as well as bloods.
Seeing a doctor face to face Depends A doctor reviews and explains every report, though the conversation is remote rather than in person.Better if you want a physical examination in the same appointment as your bloods.

Choose home when

The visit itself is the obstacle. Elderly relatives, young children, post-surgical monitoring, needle anxiety, fasting tests, whole households, hotel guests, or a test you have been putting off for months. Also when you are ordering a panel rather than one cheap test, since collection is free above AED 299 anyway.

Choose a clinic when

You need more than bloods, such as imaging or an ECG in the same visit. Also if you want a physical examination alongside your results, if you have historically very difficult veins, or if you only need one inexpensive test and would rather not pay a visit fee.

A short honest note. If a home visit is genuinely not the right route for what you need, we will say so rather than take the booking. That is worth more to us than one appointment, and it is the reason the comparison above concedes three rows to the clinic instead of pretending home testing wins everything.

Still weighing it up? Tell us the situation.

Describe what you need tested and who it is for, and we will tell you honestly whether home collection is the sensible option.

The Part Nobody Explains

Your Results, and What Happens Next

Most providers stop at "results delivered". The question people actually worry about is what happens if something comes back abnormal, so here is exactly how that works.

Your Report Arrives Privately

A secure digital report reaches you directly, with every marker shown against its reference range so you can see what sits inside normal and what does not. Nothing is sent to anyone else without your say-so.

A Doctor Reads It, Not an Algorithm

Every report is reviewed by a doctor before it is considered closed. This is included, not an upsell. A number outside a reference range is common and often means nothing on its own, which is exactly why a human reads it in context.

It Gets Explained in Plain Language

You get a conversation, not a PDF and silence. What the result means, whether it needs acting on, and what would change it. If your English is not first language, we will speak Arabic, Hindi or Urdu instead.

You Leave With a Clear Next Step

Not a vague "consult your physician". A specific answer: nothing to do, repeat in three months, change something, or see a particular specialist. Your report is yours to take to any doctor you choose, ours or not.

If Something Comes Back Abnormal

First, the useful context: a flagged result is far more common than people expect and is usually not serious. Reference ranges are built so that a proportion of perfectly healthy people fall outside them. A single number slightly out of range, with no symptoms, is often just biological variation, a recent meal, dehydration, or a hard workout the day before.

What we do not do is leave you staring at a red flag over a weekend. If a result needs attention, we tell you what it means and how urgently it matters, and we distinguish clearly between something worth repeating in a few weeks and something worth acting on today.

If a result is significantly out of range, our doctor will contact you directly rather than waiting for you to notice it in an email.

Nothing to Do

Everything sits where it should. You have a baseline to compare against next year.

Repeat and Watch

A borderline number worth rechecking in weeks or months rather than reacting to now.

See a Specialist

A clear finding that needs a particular specialty. We tell you which one and why.

A laboratory result is information, not a diagnosis. It has to be read alongside your symptoms, your history and often a physical examination, which is why no responsible provider will tell you what you have based on a number alone. If you feel unwell now, or your symptoms are severe or getting worse, seek medical care straight away rather than waiting for a test result.

Lab Tests at Home in Dubai — Frequently Asked Questions

Every question below came from real patients who called us before booking. We answer them the same way we answer them on the phone — directly, and without trying to sell you more tests than you need.

It depends on the test. Individual tests start from AED 89 for a random glucose, with common tests such as a Complete Blood Count at AED 199, a Lipid Profile at AED 249 and Vitamin D at AED 249. Specialised panels cost more. We publish our full price list on this page rather than advertising a single low headline figure, and we confirm your exact total before anyone is dispatched.

Get an exact quote now

Home collection is free on orders above AED 299. Below that threshold a flat AED 49 collection charge applies. Either way it is quoted to you before the visit is booked, and nothing is added at your door.

Turnaround depends on the specific test rather than on a single company-wide promise. Many routine tests report the same day, including CBC, glucose, lipid profile, thyroid function and vitamin D. Others take two to three days, and a small number of specialised panels take up to a week. We confirm the exact turnaround for your test when you book.

Yes. Your sample is analysed at the same DHA-approved laboratory, on the same analysers, against the same reference ranges as a walk-in sample. Accuracy is determined by how the sample is handled, not by the room it was taken in: the correct tube, labelling at your side, temperature-controlled transport, and delivery within the required time window. A clinic sample also travels to a laboratory and waits for processing.

No. You can book any test directly for self-pay. If you intend to claim on insurance, most policies do require a documented referral or a clinical reason, so it is worth checking with your insurer first.

Most tests need no fasting at all. Fasting is required for a lipid profile, fasting glucose and glucose tolerance testing, typically 8 to 12 hours with water allowed. HbA1c, CBC, thyroid, vitamin D and B12 do not require fasting. Some hormone tests such as cortisol and testosterone are best taken in the morning rather than fasted. We confirm exactly what your test needs when you book.

Yes. You do not need to be a resident and you do not need an Emirates ID. A passport is sufficient identification for visitors. We collect samples at hotels, serviced apartments and holiday rentals across Dubai.

Often, but it depends on your policy and on why the test was ordered. Medically indicated tests and monitoring of an existing condition are usually claimable. Pure screening with no symptoms, and executive full-body packages, are frequently treated as self-pay.

We work on a pay-and-claim basis: you pay at the visit and we issue an itemised invoice formatted to UAE insurance standards for you to submit. We cannot guarantee your insurer will reimburse, as that decision is theirs.

Yes. One visit can cover an entire household, including children and elderly relatives, so nobody books separately or pays a second collection charge. We also handle office and corporate screening on site.

Yes, and it is included rather than an added cost. Every report is reviewed by a doctor who explains what it means in plain language, in English, Arabic, Hindi or Urdu. You are told whether anything needs acting on and what a sensible next step would be.

A flagged result is more common than people expect and is often not serious, because reference ranges are set so that a proportion of healthy people fall outside them.

Our doctor will tell you what the result means and how urgently it matters, distinguishing between something worth repeating in a few weeks and something worth acting on now. If a result is significantly out of range, we contact you directly rather than waiting for you to notice it.

You receive a secure digital report showing each measured value against its reference range, along with the collection date and the laboratory that performed the analysis.

Results go to you and nobody else. We do not share them with an employer, family member or partner unless you ask us to in writing.
